St. Clair Township is one of the most active communities in Canada – and they may have done it unknowingly with the help of people from Petrolia.
Both St. Clair Township and a Petrolia group called Parents for Parks were part of the Participation contest to win $150,000. St. Clair is looking for cash for a $35 million upgrade to the Moore Sports Complex.
The idea behind the contest was to get active, log the amount of time you spend doing the activity and submit it to an app to become Canada’s Most Active Community.
Over 263 million minutes were logged across the country over the two weeks and St. Clair is listed as one of the top five communities in the Ontario Region. That may have come with the help of Parents for Parks, which hopes to win the cash for an accessible playground. The Petrolia group was linked in with the St. Clair group by mistake.
After looking into the mix up, Parents for Parks spokesperson Emily Denham Weed says “We did not qualify to the next round with ParticiPACTION, but they did say they are looking into creating Petrolia as its own community for next year’s contest.”
Denham Weed had hoped the group would be able to submit its proposal as well.
“We have every intention of going even harder to win Canada’s Most Active Community next year.”
