COVID-19 outbreaks at Landmark Village and Sumac Lodge over
May 7, 2020
Lambton Public Health says the outbreaks at Landmark Village Retirement Home and Sumac Lodge are over.
The first cases of the novel coronavirus were diagnosed in Landmark Village March 26. The retirement home became the epicenter of the virus in Lambton. In all, 40 people connected to the home became ill – six residents died because of the virus. Ten staff members also were ill.
Sumac Lodge on the other hand had only one case – a staff member. Lambton’s Medical Officer of Health Dr. Sudit Ranade says under normal circumstances, that would not have been enough to declare an outbreak of any other virus.
In Lambton County, there have been 193 cases of COVID-19 including one new case reported Wednesday. About 40 per cent of those cases were due to close contact with someone who had the virus. About 25 per cent were due to outbreaks in local nursing homes.
In all, there have been 3,525 completed tests – many of those in local long term care homes. The province mandated that every resident and staff member be tested.
Ranade says he’s encouraged by the trends. “Over the last several days in the last week or more …we have been seeing the numbers are down. It is a positive sign. The curve is flattening.”
