The Independent of Petrolia & Central Lambton is an award-winning community weekly newspaper.

Founded in 2013, the staff of The Independent strive to provide the region with stories about their neighbours and how government decisions affect their lives. In 2015, The Independent was named the Best Overall Newspaper (with a circulation of 4,000 to 6,999) in all of Canada by the Canadian Community Newspaper Awards and in 2019 was named the Best Small Newspaper in Ontario. The paper has also received the Canadian Journalism Foundations Jackman Award of Excellence in 2018.

Publisher-Editor Heather Wright is a journalist with over 30 years experience and is an award-winning photographer and investigative journalist who worked and lived much of her life in Lambton County and wants to tell the stories of the people in her community.

Demi Krall, our sales associate,  is a life-long resident of Enniskillen Township and the Town of Petrolia. When Demi is not at work, she can be found singing at local venues or volunteering with the Petrolia Enniskillen Agricultural Society.

Sarah Hills, our graphic designer, lives and farms with her family in Alvinston. Sarah is an active member of the Alvinston Agricultural Society.

Julli Archibald has been a graphic designer with nearly 15 years in the publishing business and has worked with The Independent for the past three years.
