Petrolia’s Campbell wins silver at provincials

Petrolia’s Hunter Campbell is heading to the national track and field championships in Ottawa.

Now training out of St. Thomas, he qualified by placing second in the under-20 hammer throw at the Athletics Ontario championships on the weekend in Windsor.

He uncorked a throw of 49.85 metres on his sixth and final attempt to take the silver medal. His final throw was more than five metres farther than his previous best for the day and moved him up from sixth to second place.

The throw surpassed the qualifying mark of 47.50 metres for the national event to be held from July 30 to August 3.

Campbell also placed seventh in the under-20 discus with a throw of 44.83 metres and was 14th in the under-20 shot put completion at 12.59 metres.
