Lambton Public Health has issued a heat warning.

With the prediction of hot and humid weather for the Canada Day long weekend, Environment and Climate Change Canada is issuing a Heat Warning for Lambton County. In high temperatures and humidity, your body may not be able to cool properly which can lead to heat exhaustion or even heat stroke.

The warning will remain in effect over the long weekend and is likely to be extended into the middle of next week.

A heat warning is issued when two consecutive days are forecasted to have a daytime high temperature greater than or equal to 31⁰C and a nighttime temperature greater than or equal to 20⁰C or a humidex greater than 40⁰C.

Heat-Related Illness

As the humidex value increases, it becomes harder for the human body to regulate its temperature.

Extreme heat can affect your health many ways: heat stroke, heat exhaustion, dehydration, fatigue, cramps.

Heat exhaustion is a milder form of heat related illness that may develop after several days of exposure to high temperatures and inadequate replacement of fluids.

Heat strokee is the most serious heat-related illness. It occurs when the body is unable to control its temperature. When the body loses its ability to cool itself, the core body temperature rises rapidly. Heat stroke can cause permanent damage to vital organs and may lead to death if emergency treatment is not provided.

Why spend $20K to study a bridge to nowhere: McEwen

June 20, 2025

Heather Wright/The Independent Plympton-Wyoming Deputy Mayor Netty McEwen says it doesn’t make sense to spend $20,000 to study a bridge that goes nowhere. Paul daSilva, Director of Public Works, in a report to council June 11, suggested spending $40,000 to do Municipal Environmental Assessments on two low-traffic bridges, one on O’Brien Road, the other on Elmsley Road. “I took a
