Bailey named parliamentary assistant to ministers of colleges and infrastructure

July 25, 2024

Sarnia Lambton MPP Bob Bailey has two new jobs.

Premier Doug Ford recently released his latest list of parliamentary assistant appointments and the five-term MPP has been named the parliamentary assistant to the Minister of Colleges and Universities. He also becomes an assistant to the Minister of Infrastructure, Kinga Surma. That ministry is overseeing the renovations at Queen’s Park

Bailey was named the parliamentary assistant to the Minister of Legislative Affairs in April to help the lead in the restoration of Ontario’s Legislative Building. It first opened its doors on April 4, 1893 and has not undergone a major renovation in over 100 years. The project will include securing and preparing a temporary place to conduct parliamentary business. It will take about eight years.

In June, as legislature was closing up shop for the summer, Premier Ford increased the size of cabinet from 30 to 36 and released a new list of parliamentary assistants. Bailey retained the title of parliamentary assistant to the Minister of Legislative Affairs, even though the minister’s job was eliminated.

The Toronto Star reported June 10 Infrastructure Minister Kinga Surma takes over the construction project, along with her other duties.

It took until July 19 for the government to rectify the mistake.
