Enniskillen Mayor Kevin Marriott may not have a municipal election contest this year, but he did face some of his political colleagues at the Lambton County Plowing Match.
And Marriott, who is also Lambton’s Warden, handily handled the competition.
Marriott won the annual plowing contest between politicians over St. Clair Township Mayor Jeff Agar, Plympton-Wyoming Mayor, Gary Atkinson, St. Clair Deputy Mayor-Elect Steve Arnold and Brooke-Alvinston Councillor Don McCabe.
While the political contests always attracts attention, there was a lot of action on the fields of Kevin and Pam Dobbin’s
farm on Black Ash Road in Enniskillen Township Saturday.
“Today is great,” said Albert Tuinstra, president of the Lambton County Plowmen’s Association.
“I am surprised at how many came out for this.”
Tuinstra was expecting 25 to 30 plowers for Saturday’s event, but they got 40.
“That is better than normal, said Tuinstra, as there were 35 participants in 2025 and 32 in 2024.
“A lot of people look forward to this every year,” said Tuinstra, even though he admitted plowing is not that common
anymore with most farmers opting for no-till methods.
“We have got to keep it alive,” said Tuinstra.
Tuinstra was among the people who launched and won a bid for the 2027 International Plowing Match in Brigden Members of that organizing committee withdrew their support, putting the international match in question.
Recently, the Ontario Plowmens’ Association found another location on Petrolia Line.
The 2026-2027 Queen of the Furrow Kristen Rombouts, who was chosen Saturday, will represent the county during the
IPM on Petrolia Line.
