The Mooretown Flags open the 2026-27 PJHL season against the Walpole Island Wild Saturday at the Moore Sports Complex hoping to honour their former teammate Dane Nisbet in the process.
The Flags finished fourth in the league’s Stobbs Division last season with a record of 22-19-1. They lost to Blenheim in six games in the first round of the playoffs.
It’ll be the first regular season game for Mooretown’s new head coach and general manager Kevin Devine who was hired during the offseason to replace longtime Flags Mark Davis and John Baker.
Devine’s extensive local hockey background includes a stint as co-GM of the Petrolia Jets in 2004.
Mooretown rounded out its roster over the past week with the re-signing of Petrolia’s Kaiden Edwards and Corunna’s
Thomas Browning-McFeggan along with rookies Owen Harris and Ben Grant.
The Flags continue its season taking on the perennial powerhouse 73’s in Essex next Tuesday night.
Prior to visiting Mooretown, the Wild skate up against the Kings in Dresden on Friday night. Game time at the Ken
Houston Memorial Agricultural Centre is 7:30.
Dresden’s roster includes Watford’s Blake Verberne and Ryan Bork, Alvinston’s Joey Hayter and Lambton Jr. Sting grads Dante Andali and Cam Hutton.
