Petrolia council cancelled due to weather

In a rare move, Petrolia has cancelled its municipal council meeting scheduled for tonight.
Staff made the move this afternoon citing the “inclement weather.”
Staff members, some with as much as 35 years experience, told The Independent they cannot remember when the town cancelled a meeting due to weather.
The business which was to be discussed tonight will be dealt with at the next regular council meeting Jan. 20.

Avian flu detected in Lambton poultry operation

The Independent Lambton Public Health officials say there has been a confirmed report of Avian influenza in a poultry flock. In a news release, officials said the Ontario Ministry of Health and Agriculture as well as the Canadian Food Inspection Agency is investigating the situation.
