The Petrolia Squires playoff hopes are over.

The Squires lost to the Tavistock Royals 5-1 Sunday in Petrolia in a game that was closer than the score shows.

Petrolia fought back from a 3-0 deficit in the series to win two games on the road and were in a do or die position Sunday. The Squires kept it close for the first two periods with the score 1-1 heading into the third. The Royals scored early in the final period, and added two empty net goals to win.

The game was the final one for Coach Kent Helps who announced he was stepping down as president of the Squires earlier this month.
