New scholarship program at Great Lakes created in honour of late Sarnia judge

German gun restored by Petrolia Legion members
November 9, 2015
Sarnia Lambton MPP Bob Bailey took some time to admire and take a picture of the newly refurbished gun in front of Branch 216 Legion Friday. The Legion’s Second Vice President, Dave Johnstone, researched the German artillery gun which was captured in France in 1918 and found it made its way to Petrolia in 1922. It’s sat near the legion since that time. Johnstone and current President Gary Dupuis, took the time to repaint the gun after it was sandblasted joking over the years “it has been painted by half this town.” The wheels were also restored by Les Whiting who told Bailey it was some of the most challenging wheel work he’s ever taken on.
