Nova expanding rail yard for storage
December 5, 2015
Nova Chemicals is expanding its rail storage area at the Moore site.
The company recently went to St. Clair Township Council for approval for the move.
Nova’s general manager, Tom Thompson, says the company is building 200 additional storage spots for rail cars on site. The project will cover about five hectares of land within the complex. Nova is not releasing how much the project will cost.
“We’re essentially moving our offsite storage of rail cars to an onsite location,” he says.
“There will be no more increased rail traffic just more rail cars stored on site so we’re in a better position to ship to our customers,” he says.
Thompson says construction on the project will begin in the spring with contractors first preparing the ground and then laying the new rail beds.
The rail yard should be ready for use by 2017.
