There will be lots to do for families on the Family Day weekend in Petrolia.

While the official holiday is Monday, the activities start Monday with free public skating at the Greenwood Recreation Centre from noon to 1:40 pm.

You can also see the movie “Home” at Victoria Playhouse Petrolia on the big screen starting at 2pm. The event and popcorn for the movie are free. Organizers ask that at least one adult accompany every four children and  anyone under 11.

On Family Day there will be more public skating from 1 pm to 2:20pm at the Greenwood Recreation Centre. Then at the Oil Heritage District Community Centre, there will be all kinds of activities, from bouncy castles to free carnival games from 1 pm to 3 pm. Free public swimming will also be offered between 11 am and 6 pm with a safety stop at 1 pm where swimmers will be asked to sit at the side of the pool for 10 minutes.

There will also be lots to do at the Watford Arena including free skating and games for the kids.

New scholarship program at Great Lakes created in honour of late Sarnia judge

Students in St. Clair Township and Sarnia will be able to apply for a new scholarship program, named in honour of an Ontario Court Justice from Sarnia. The Sarnia Community Foundation says the family of the late Anne McFadyen has set up an annual scholarship program, similar to LCCVI’s Nicol Scholarships. Driver taken to hospital after Inwood accident

An Alvinston woman had to be taken to hospital after an accident near Inwood Monday. Lambton OPP have yet to release any details about the crash Monday morning which occurred during foggy conditions. LCCVI on top of girls high school hockey standings

LCCVI moved into a first place tie with Chatham-Kent Secondary School in girls’ high school hockey this week with a 2-1 win over the Golden Hawks in Chatham. The Lancers are 2-0-2 in the south division this season. The regular season wraps up late next week. Playoff dates have yet to be announced.
