New cycling tour to dip into Warwick this summer

March 14, 2016

Lambton County cyclist will have a new challenge this summer.

The Granfondo Cycling event will be held July 29 starting from Mike Weir Park in Bright’s Grove. There will be three routes, 50 kilometres, 100 kilometres and 150 kilometres. That route makes its way through Warwick Township and Arkona before returning to the shores of Lake Huron and into Sarnia.

Each route will have its own start time to avoid mass start anxiety and allows riders of all distances to finish in what organizers say is a reasonable time of each other.

“We are extremely excited about bringing this event to Sarnia-Lambton,” said Kenneth MacAlpine – Chair of the Bluewater International Granfondo in a news release. “The Bluewater International Granfondo is part personal challenge and part serious competition. The event will not be timed from start to finish as in traditional racing formats but instead will have a number of timed sections if you choose to challenge yourself all while riding in some of Lambton County’s most scenic areas.”

“This is a great event for our community and a “must do” for both cycling enthusiasts and first timers, says Vicky Praill, Special Events and Groups Marketing Co-ordinator for Tourism Sarnia Lambton. “ We are excited about being a part of the host committee and look forward to welcoming all of our guests.”

The funds raised from the event will go to St. Joseph’s Hospice and the Palliative Care Unit at Bluewater Health.
