July 21, 2016
Long-time Petrolia Squires supporter Kent Helps is among eight individuals and one team going into the Sarnia-Lambton Hall of Fame later this year.
Helps is being recognized under the special achievement category, which goes to an individual who has made a significant contribution to sports in areas beyond athletic prowess.
He has been involved with the Petrolia Squires hockey club since 1989 as assistant manager, manager, coach and president. He has also played a major role in fundraising for the team and was general manager when the Squires hosted the 2001 Allan Cup.
Helps also started a senior baseball team in Wyoming in 1982 and was a part of two Town and Country League championship teams in Petrolia.
The 34th annual Hall of Fame enshrinement dinner will be held at the Camlachie Community Centre on Oct. 1.
