St. Clair Township firefighters are still on the scene of a half million dollar barn fire.
Neighbours notice flames coming from a barn at Franz Turkey Farms on Plank Road and alerted the owners. By the time firefighters from Brigden, Courtright and Petrolia/North Enniskille arrived, two-thirds of the barn was in flames according to Chief Walt Anderson.
The barn was empty and the family was in the middle of cleaning it out in anticipation of a new flock.
Anderson isn’t sure what caused the fire yet. It’s likely insurance investigators will determine the cause.
St. Clair firefighters are expected to be on the scene most of Wednesday putting out the hot spots under the tin roof which collapsed.
