Vasey sworn in as new Plympton-Wyoming councillor

This is as close as most members of the public could get to the swearing in ceremony for Plympton-Wyoming Councillor Mike Vasey. Vasey. Ontario's Ombudsman has ruled council should not have talked about whether to appoint a councillor or hold a by-election in private.

Like all things in the age of COVID-19, the swearing in of former Wyoming Fire Chief Mike Vasey as the new councillor for Plympton-Wyoming was unusual.

Vasey took the oath of office Wednesday, with just members of council and a few relatives in the room. Normally, the meeting would be open to all public and media but due to COVID-19 pandemic restrictions, the number of people allowed in the room was capped to permit proper social distancing.

After the ceremony, Vasey posed for a portrait for The Independent in the lobby.

He fills the vacany left by the death of long-time councillor Ron Schenk.
