WHAA cancels the season
For the first time in 51 years, the Petrolia Squires won’t be lacing up this year.
The Western Ontario Athletic Association has officially cancelled the 2020-2021 senior hockey season.
The board made the decision last night.
Board members said it would be unlikely the clubs could have many fans in the arenas for the games because of the COVID-19 pandemic and that would mean little revenue to run the clubs.
Officials also cited the personal safety of the club members and their fans.
This is the first time in the league’s 72 year history without hockey. The Squires have been on the ice since 1969.
