Watford hall and arena project $11.5M say councillors

December 12, 2020

Warwick Councillor Wayne Morris wants to make sure there are no surprises when it comes to the cost of the new community centre.

The township recently gave approval to move ahead on the project which will create a new community hall at the Watford arena.

There are also plans to renovate the arena at the same time. Morris is concerned people might be confused by the true cost of the project. Several reports, including The Independent’s, said the project would be $10 million.

Morris was concerned that wasn’t the full cost. “I didn’t want people to think that’s the number,” he says.

Township officials say that’s the cost of the new community centre only.
The arena project is another $1.5 million, making the total cost of the project $11.5 million.

Mayor Jackie Rombouts says there is a lot of interest in the project and the big question is how are we going to pay for it. Rombouts explains there will be fundraising and perhaps loans.
