1076: Lambton smashes through COVID-19 milestone

Lambton County smashed through a milestone in the COVID-19 pandemic; more than 1,000 people have tested positive for the virus. There were 77 new cases reported Tuesday bringing the total number of cases to 1,076 here.

Today’s numbers reinforce the rapid rate of growth of the virus in Lambton.

It took nine-and-a-half months for 500 people in Lambton to test positive for the virus. In the last 18 days, there have been 579 people who are now COVID-19 positive. That means since Dec. 19, the number of COVID-19 cases has increased nearly 54 per cent.

Statistics released Tuesday show there are now 323 people actively fighting COVID-19, that’s up 30 from yesterday. Another 47 people have now recovered.

In Ontario, there were 3,128 cases reported Tuesday. Fifty one people have died. There are 216 outbreaks in long term care homes, including six in Lambton County. Thirty five of the the 51 deaths were in long term care homes today.
