Three members of the Lambton Jr. Sting U16 squad were selected in the OHL Priority Selection on the weekend.
Captain Jace McGrail was taken in the 10th round by the Peterborough Petes, 195th overall. McGrail, who started out with the Petrolia Oilers, is from Wyoming.
A few picks later, Sting teammates Tanner Winegard, from Bright’s Grove and Jaxon Priddle, of Sarnia, went back-to-back early in the 11th round.
Winegard was chosen 203rd by the Windsor Spitfires followed by Priddle to his hometown Sting at #204.
The Sting also made history selecting the first woman to be drafted into the OHL – Taya Currie – in the 14th round of the league’s draft Saturday. Currie, a goaltender from the Elgin-Middlesex Chiefs lives in Parkhill.
“It’s such a great feeling,” said Currie during an interview on Hockey Night in Canada. “I don’t really know what to say. It’s just awesome.”
