The coal-fired power generating plant on the banks of the St. Clair River in Courtright is now a pile of rubble.
This morning, just after 8 am, Ontario Power Generation imploded the stacks and the boilers of the massive plant which generated electricity from 1969 to 2013.
Neal Kelly, spokesperson for OPG, says “Successful implosion. Stacks and boilers are on the ground. All went as planned.”
Roads around the plant were blocked off as was access on the St. Clair River to discourage onlookers from being in the blast zone.
OPG hopes to have the entire site cleared by the summer.
