Highway 402 closed between Sarnia and Watford with multiple accidents

February 17, 2022

Highway 402 is now closed between Airport Road and Nauvoo Road as OPP are dealing with multiple accidents including at least two involving transports.

As the snow started to get heavy just before 4 pm, a transport jack knifed on Highway 402 near Oil Heritage Road and two transports collided near Mandaumin.

The transport truck appears to be blocking both sides of the highway and is causing traffic backups. There is also a collision at the Camlachie Road overpass at this hour.

The OPP is closing the 402 between Mandaumin and Nauvoo Road.

Just before 4 pm, Environment Canada issued a Winter Storm Water.

Periods of freezing rain or ice pellets will transition completely over to snow this evening and quickly become heavy at times. Snow is expected to end early Friday morning.

Surfaces such as highways, roads, walkways and parking lots may become difficult to navigate due to accumulating snow, says the warning. Visibility will be suddenly reduced to near zero at times in heavy snow and blowing snow. Surfaces such as highways, roads, walkways and parking lots may become icy and slippery. Ice build-up may cause tree branches to break.
