For the fourth time in the past six seasons, the Petrolia Flyers and Essex 73’s are meeting in the first round of the PJHL Stobbs Division playoffs.

Petrolia’s first home postseason game is Thursday at Greenwood Arena at 7:30.

The first game in the best-of-seven series was Tuesday in Essex but the score was not available prior to our weekly deadline. The 73’s won all four regular season games between the teams but they have not played since early December.

Game three is in Essex on Sunday afternoon with the Flyers hosting game four next Tuesday.

Petrolia closed out the regular season skating to a 4-4 overtime tie against Lakeshore in a rescheduled game last Saturday. The contest was postponed last month due to inclement weather.

Andrew Jaques had a natural hat trick to lead the Flyers including the equalizer with less than three seconds left in the third period. Jaques has ten goals in ten games since the season restart early last month.

Jack McAlpine had the other Flyer goal. Tyler Richardson had 34 stops.
