One burgundy seed to be grown across Lambton
May 12, 2022
Lambton residents who have always wanted a green – or burgundy – thumb have their chance this year with Lambton County Libraries the One Seed Lambton program. People are encouraged to pick up a packet of Royal Burgundy Bush Beans from any library and plant them at home. The program kicked off at the Petrolia Library this weekend with Brian Sipken of Sipken’s Nursery explaining how to prepare the soil with fertilizer, like chicken manure, before planting. The beans are hardy and will grow rapidly as long as they are picked. They’re a deep purple on the vine but turn green when cooked according to Vanitia Campbell of the Lambton County Library. The library will be hosting more talks about One Seed Lambton and what you can do to prepare the beans for eating in the future.
