A man could be heard yelling for help while being taken away after a five hour stand off in the heart of Wyoming.

Around 8:30 Saturday night, eight Lambton OPP cruisers converged on a house at the corner of Erie and Broadway Streets in Wyoming. One neighbour told The Independent a woman had fled the house before police arrived.

By 10:13 pm, Wyoming firefighters were evacuating people in the block around the house. Some stayed in the streets with neighbours watching the event unfold; others went to the Plympton-Wyoming Fair building.

Neighbours told The Independent they could hear yelling coming from the home as the man shot arrows out a window. Another said they heard glass breaking.

Broadway was closed to traffic between Huron and Ontario St. and around midnight, the Canine Unit and Emergency Response Team from London had arrived in Lambton County, stopping at the County building before heading to the home.

A large armoured vehicle and a smaller van filled with officers in tactical equipment came up to the house. The officers went into the back yard of the home.
