There will not be a senior hockey game in Petrolia Wednesday night after all. The Western Ontario Athletic Association has awarded the game to the Squires after Minto-Mapleton (Drayton) has told the league it can not ice a team for what would have been the Squires’ final home game.
“As an organization this is not what we wanted to see happen as we lose a home game which brings us revenue to cover team costs.” said Squires spokesperson Tim Martin in a social media post.
Petrolia, now 10-8 on the season, takes the long trek to Shallow Lake this Friday before closing out the regular season at Lucknow a week from Friday. Playoffs begin next month.
The team says passes for tomorrow’s cancelled game will be honoured for the first game of the postseason.
