Films, food and fun on Family Day in Petrolia

January 27, 2023

Petrolia officials are hoping for a weekend of family, fun and of course snow as they prepare for the annual Family Day weekend.

The town has prepared a weekend of movies at Victoria Playhouse, sports events including free skating and open gym time at the Y and a number of places to have something good to eat for the Feb. 17 to 20 weekend.

Movies start Friday with Top Gun: Maverick. Saturday, Paws of Fury: The Legend of Hank plays in the afternoon and in the evening it’s The Lost City.

Sunday, the Y has free family sports and there will be free public skating. Town officials hope people will get sporty with their snow sculptures this year. The theme for the contest is sports teams logos. Once you’re done your sculpture, you’re asked to send a photo to twagner@petrolia.ca for judging.

And, there will also be plenty of food with the Petrolia Legion hosting a fundraising breakfast and the firefighters having an open house with a barbecue Sunday as well. Monday; New Life hosts its Free Family Day Breakfast.

The Optimist will have bouncy castles at the Y for the kids, the Lions are hosting Bingo at the hall and there will be another round of free skating for all.
