County joins calls for school board to pay for their own elections
February 1, 2023
Lambton County is backing Petrolia’s call for compensation to run trustee elections.
Petrolia Mayor Brad Loosley brought up the issue at town council recently saying the municipality has always foot the bill for trustee election without any compensation. And, he points out, in some municipalities, where a council is acclaimed, the community still has to run an election for trustees. That happened in Enniskillen and Dawn-Euphemia Townships this year.
Loosley suggested school boards should either be compensating municipalities for the service or running their own election if the local council has been acclaimed.
County councillors agreed Wednesday to send a letter to MPP Bob Bailey asking him to advance the idea at Queen’s Park. Only Point Edward Mayor Bev Hand opposed the move.
