Curtain comes down on Flags season

April 1, 2023

The season is now officially over for the Mooretown Flags.

The PJHL club was given a reprieve when they were awarded a victory this week due to Essex’s use of an ineligible player in game five.

In game six Friday, the teams battled to a scoreless draw until the visitors broke the ice at 11:58 of the third period.

Essex added an insurance with a little less than two minutes left in regulation time and iced the contest with an empty net marker.

The 73’s won 3-0 before 617 fans at the Moore Sports Complex to capture the best-of-seven series four games to two.

John Chartrand stopped 37 of 39 shots for the Flags and ended the postseason with a 2.28 goals-against average and a .944 save percentage.

The 73’s will now battle Lakeshore for the Stobbs Division crown. The Canadiens rallied from two games down to beat Wheatley in six games in the other semifinal.
