Sydenham Canoe and Kayak race set for April 30

April 13, 2023

The annual Sydenham River Canoe and Kayak Race is back.

The St. Clair Region Conservation Authority and foundation will be hosting the long running spring event April 30.

It has been a number of years since the race was held, partly due to weather but also because of the pandemic.

The race is recognized by the the Ontario Marathon Canoe Kayak Racing Association and features 11 classes and three different race lengths to appeal to both competitive and recreational paddlers.

Seven-kilometre race classes include Recreation, Lazy River, VIP, Touring (over 50 years of age) and Short Kayak. Twelve-kilometre race classes include Rec Tandem Men, Rec Tandem Mixed and Long Rec Kayak. The 16-kilometre race classes are Pro C2 Men, Pro C2 Mixed and Fast Kayak.

The starting line is Mosside Road just west of Country Road 79. A shuttle service will be available beginning at 10:00 am until 11:00 am between the start and finish line. All classes and race lengths end at the Shetland Conservation Area located on Lambton County Road 2.

The event is a fundraiser for the foundation to continue providing conservation services in the Sydenham River watershed.
