Lancer Girls Rugby team heading to OFSSA

May 31, 2023

The LCCVI Girls Rugby team is headed to OFSSA.

The team was three and one on the season, losing only the Ursuline College – a AAA team under secondary school league play. The Lancers lost that match 7-0 and lost again to UCC Tuesday in the LK final.

Coach Chris Edgar says the team has had a good season. “We beat Great Lakes, Northern and Chatham-Kent twice but couldn’t find an answer to the really strong UCC team,” he says.

Edgar says because LCCVI is the highest ranking A/AA Rugby team in SWOSSAA, the Lancers advance to the championship in the division.

The team will head to Belleville from June 5 to 7 for the championship series.
Also playing in the A/AA division will be St. Mary’s Catholic from Cobourg, Centennial from Belleville, Centre Dufferin from Shelburne, La Salle from Kingston, Streetsville Secondary, from Mississauga and Ursual Franklin Academy from Toronto.

“”We are a young team that hasn’t been to OFSAA in a very long time, so we will probably get a ranking somewhere between 12-16,” Edgar says.

And as the team prepares, one of the Lancers is gearing up to represent Ontario. Mackenzie Duncan has been selected to the provincial team as a member of the U16 West team.
