Tip leads to recovery of 36 handguns near Port Lambton

October 28, 2023

Lambton OPP say 36 handguns were found near Port Lambton thanks to a tip.

Early Thursday morning, the OPP Border Enforcement Security Task Force got a tip about a jet ski with two people on board in the St. Clair River in the Port Lambton Area near Old River Road. Old River Road runs from Brander Park to the marina near the north tip of Walpole Island.

The OPP, including officers from Corunna, the Canine Unit, the Emergency Response Team and Walpole Island police searched the area and found 36 illegal firearms.

The two people on the jet ski weren’t found.

Officers believe the suspects may have fled the area on foot. Investigators are seeking information from the public that may help identify the suspects and locate the missing jet ski.

Det. Insp. Lee Fulford of the OPP Organized Crime Enforcement Bureau says illegal firearms are used by organized crime. “Any tip from the public, no matter how small, may be the missing piece that officers need to solve this investigation and to prevent future firearms smuggling incidents.”
