Alvinston woman NDP candidate in LKM by-election

February 16, 2024

A former educator from Alvinston will carry the NDP banner in the yet to be called Lambton-Kent-Middlesex by-election.

Kathryn Shailer, a life-long educator and former VP of academics at Mount Royal University who now lives in Alvinston became the party’s candidate at a meeting Thursday in Watford.

Shailer says faster, better, publicly-funded, and publicly-delivered health care is one of her main priorities. She’s also listed cost-of-living crisis, stronger investments in education, housing, and environmental sustainability as her concerns heading into the by-election to replace Monte McNaughton, who resigned in Sept. 2023.

Shailer joins Steve Pinsonneault of the Progressive Conservatives, Cathy Burghart-Jesson of the Liberals and Keith Benn from the New Blue Party in the race for the seat.

A by election must be called by April.
