Only the hardiest remain at Rainbow Park say Sarnia officials
Learning from an Olympian
March 15, 2024
Skaters from the Brooke-Alvinston Skating Club were getting lessons from Canadian Olympic Skater Elvis Stojko.
Lindsay Alderman, the president of the club, says the coaches submitted an application for a coaching clinic with the silver medalist and his wife, Gladys Orozca, several years ago and received a call about a month ago saying a spot had opened up.
Alderman says community sponsors, including the Alvinston Optimist Club, helped foot the bill to make the day-long training session possible.
Stojko gave the skaters pointers on some of the moves and made them laugh pretending to fall to the ice during the session.
This isn’t the first time an Olympic champion visited Alvinston. Elizabeth Manley worked with students from the club several years ago, Alderman said.
