Bike path to be part of Cameron St. construction

April 8, 2024

The Independent

Cameron Street in Corunna will be getting a bike path after all.

Two weeks ago, St. Clair Township councillors questioned the need for dedicated bike paths and set the project aside.

Monday, Councillor Pat Brown renewed his objection to the idea saying the street wasn’t wide enough. However staff said there was room for a 1.5 meter bike path on each side of the road. It was suggested in the yet to be completed Active Transportation plan. Some members of council suggested the project be delayed until the report was done, but that would likely mean the Cameron Street construction would have to be put off for a year.

Instead, council agreed to the dedicated bike lanes to be included in the project as it goes out to tender.
