United Way hopes to raise $1.48 million in Sarnia Lambton

The Sarnia-Lambton United Way is reaching a little higher this year.
Campaign Chair Mike Edgar says this year’s campaign goal will be $1,487,000 – one per cent higher than last year.
“We recognize the need is great this year, and our funded agencies along with their clients are feeling the effects of inflation,” says Edgar.
“We wanted to be realistic in terms of what can be raised while at the same time, recognizing those increasing needs,” he said.
Last year, United Way exceeded its goal. “While some funding is going to homeless and warming shelters, a big piece of our funding is being used for poverty reduction, and trying to prevent people and families from going into poverty and possibly becoming homeless,” Edgar said in a news release.
The unofficial start to the campaign is Saturday with the annual Sarnia Sting Black and White game. It is at the Progressive Auto Sales Arenawith the puck drop at 4:00 PM. Admission is a donation, and Sting fans are encouraged to buy 50-50 and raffle tickets.
