Wallaceburg man faces charges after stolen car crashes

A Wallaceburg man is facing a raft of charges after a stolen vehicle crashed on Walpole Island.

Lambton OPP got a call about a stolen vehicle on the St. Clair Parkway in St. Clair Township just after 2:30 Sunday morning. Police then received a traffic complaint with a similar vehicle. Police found the car and tried to stop it on St. Clair Parkway north of Dufferin Ave near Wallaceburg, but the driver failed to stop.

Police didn’t continue the pursuit, concerned about public safety.

Shortly after, OPP received a report of a single-vehicle accident on Chiefs Road on Walpole Island. Went to the scene and found the stolen car.

A 33 year old from Wallaceburg has been charged with theft, possession of stolen property, impaired driving, flight from police, failing to provide a breath sample, and driving while suspended.

He’ll be in court Sept. 24.
