UPDATE: 402 REOPENING after snow and high winds closed highway

December 5, 2024

Lambton County officials say ambulance responses in north and east Lambton may be delayed due to poor road conditions.

It’s part of a long list of issues as Lambton gets a blast of winter. Lambton OPP closed Highway 402 from Nauvoo Road Eastbound to Highway 401 in London due to blowing snow and zero visibility at 6 this morning. At 10:45, OPP announced the road and the 401 which had been closed around London, is also reopening.

The blowing snow is also causing issues on other roads. Lambton Shores officials say snow and high winds are causing major whiteouts across Lambton Shores and the county. Crews have been working hard to clear the roads, but conditions remain challenging with very limited visibility. Officials say if you don’t need to travel this morning, best to stay home but if you need to travel, be prepared and drive with extreme caution.

Buses in zones 1, 3,4 and six were cancelled today because of the snow.

Ambulance services are also being affected. Lambton officials say calls will be prioritized, and crews are monitoring road conditions and working closely with Public Works to ensure safe passage of emergency vehicles. Please only call 911 in an emergency – a potential threat to life or limb according to officials including chest pain, unconsciousness, shortness of breath, severe bleeding, for example.

Non-life-threatening medical concerns can be directed to Telehealth Ontario by dialing 811, who can provide an assessment and treatment options over the phone.

And the weather is even affecting Silverstick action in Watford and Alvinston. The games were delayed by two hours.
