The last of the tents at Rainbow Park are gone.
City of Sarnia officials say they and Sarnia Police “successfully transitioned the last individuals encamped at Rainbow Park out of the area” Thursday. Wednesday, there were five tents left along the fence line. Over the summer, about 80 people were calling the park home.
City officials and the police’s IMPACT team have been talking with the last people at the park to convince them to voluntarily vacate the site, a city news release said. “All individuals leaving the park were connected with alternate housing / shelter.”
Police released a drone video of a backhoe cleaning up what was left of the tents and putting into a large dumpster.
Officials say they’ll continue to enforce a plane which prohibits encampments on all city owned property.
