June 4, 2025
The Conservatives controversial bill which speeds development of the York1 Environmental project is on its way to becoming law.
The government used its majority government to limit debate and force a vote on Bill 5 Wednesday afternoon. The bill passed with all the PC members present voting in favour of the bill. That includes Sarnia-Lambton MPP Bob Bailey even though Lambton county opposed the legislation which removes the requirement for an Environmental Assessment of the construction and soil waste recycling facility on the county’s doorstep.
Lambton-Kent-Middlesex MPP Steve Pinsonneault who represents Dresden, was not in the Legislature to cast a vote. The MPP was not present for any of the three readings of Bill 5.
In a social media post in mid-May told his constituents he was angry and disappointed by the move but his vote against his government’s legislation would not make a difference.
