Fair banner may not fly

The Moore Agricultural Society has some big plans for the 175th anniversary of the Brigden Fair. But not all of their plans may work out.
The ag society has asked for and received several approvals from St. Clair Township council for special events at the landmark fair including allowing a low-level Canadian Armed Forces Flyby and helicopter landings by the CAF as well.
But a request to place a banner at the intersection of Brigden Road and Courtright Line is being met with some concern.
Brian Black, director of public works for St. Clair, says there are no municipal light standards on there, so the ag society would have to use the hydro poles. He said the township doesn’t have the authority to grant permission for that.
And Black says, nearly two decades ago, the township installed poles “specifically designed to take the wind load of the banners” in Corunna.
“Brigden doesn’t have those,” he said.
Council asked staff to work with the Moore Ag Society to see if there is a solution to the problem.
