One person is dead and another is in custody facing five charges after a pedestrian was hit by a vehicle on Walpole Island First Nation.

Lambton OPP, Walpole Island police and fire were called to Tecumseh road between Chiefs Road and Aquash Lane just before 1 am Saturday. They found a pedestrian with life-threatening injuries.

The 22 year old from Wallaceburg was taken to hospital where they died.

A 25-year old from Walpole Island First Nation was arrested and charged with impaired driving, impaired driving causing death, failing to stop at an accident causing death, dangerous operation of a vehicle causing death and driving while under suspension.

Lambton OPP say the 25-year old has been in Sarnia court, was denied bail and remains in custody. Police say a publication ban is in effect so they won’t be releasing any other details of the fatal crash.
