Petrolia Chovaneck earns UFC contract
September 17, 2025
Petrolia’s Cody Chovancek will be fighting in the UFC.
The bantamweight mixed martial arts national champion earned a contract to the premier MMA circut by knocking out England’s Raphael Uchegbu on Dana White’s Contender Series Tuesday.
The 27-year old, who has a record of 9-0-0, started wrestling in high school and then started kickboxing at 16. By 18 he had his first amateur MMA fight. He now trains in St Catharines with Niagara’s Top Team.
He’s the second Canadian to earn a contract in the UFC this year.
Chovancek told reporters after Tuesday’s fight he’s proud to represent Canada and he’d love to be on the card when the UFC comes to Vancouver, next month. He added it might be a little too soon.
