Brooke-Alvinston will hire a contractor to help manage the $2 million renovation of the arena at the Brooke-Alvinston-Inwood Community Centre.
The ice making equipment and floor of the Alvinston arena needs $2 million in repairs. The municipality was awarded up to $1 million from the province to pay for half of the project from the Ontario government’s. The municipality will fund the rest, perhaps from low-interest loan from Infrastructure Ontario, fundraising or reserves from the municipality.
Clerk-Administrator Janet Denkers had advocated for a construction manager, saying staff didn’t have the expertise to deal with the large project. She says Lambton County officials believe between 12 and 15 people will bid on the work which includes coordinating the trades and engineers, resolving issues on site, and keeping the project on time and budget.
Council will get to review the proposals after Oct. 1.
