Five electric school buses were pulled off the road in Lambton Kent after an electric school bus caught fire in Montreal in Sept. 9.
The five Lambton Kent school buses were manufactured by Lion, the same company that built the school bus in Montreal.
The Montreal incident happened after the driver turned on the heating system and noticed smoke coming out the vents.
The driver pulled to the side of the street and got the five children off the bus safely before the vehicle was consumed in flames.
Lambton Kent’s Associate Director of Corporate Services Brian McKay said the buses will remain off the road until officials are satisfied it is safe. The bus routes were not disrupted, as there were additional buses in the fleet, which could take all five spots.
