Nolan DeKoning made his debut with the Petrolia Squires a memorable one.

He stopped 41 shots to backstop the Squires to a 9-0 win at Milverton in Ontario Elite Hockey League action on Sunday afternoon.

He signed with Petrolia last month after three seasons in Alvinston.

Josh Barraclough, Carson Peer and Daniel Gibson all scored twice for the winners who put a close game on ice with a seven-goal outburst in the third period.

Joey Ferrera, Joel Pavey and TJ Harris also scored for Petrolia. Colby Ackworth, Zach VanEyk and Isaac McLean each had two assists.

At home on Friday, Peer scored his first career goal as a Squire less than seven minutes into the game and the home team never looked back in beating the Delhi Flames, 8-1.

Curtis Helps led the winners with two goals and an assist and was named player of the game. Ryan Fraser and Barraclough each had a goal and two assists. Tyler Ryan, Harris and VanEyk also scored for Petrolia with Blake Butler adding two assists.

Sixteen of 17 Squire skaters had at least one point in the contest.

Owen Stevenson recorded his first win in the Petrolia crease with 20 saves as the Squires outshot Delhi, 77-21.

Robinson and Cam Fraser recently signed with Petrolia.

The Squires are on the road this Friday taking on the Rocks in Elora. Game time is 8:30. 

Petrolia is second in the league’s South Conference with a 6-1 record. Elora is 5-2. Petrolia’s next home game is against Tillsonburg on Nov. 28.
