It’s the first look of what the new, $74 million Blue Coast District School.

Lambton Shores Council got a look at the site plan for the Junior Kindergarten to Grade 12 school for over 1,100 students Tuesday. It gave staff approval to sign the agreement which moves the development forward.

The Lambton-Kent District School Board received approval to build the school which includes three child care and two EarlyON rooms Aug. 20 after eight years of planning lobbying.

But officials were tight-lipped about what the building would look like.

While there still isn’t a view of the exterior of the much-anticipated building, the architectural drawings in Tuesday’s council package show a two-storey school with an outdoor play area and outdoor classrooms for elementary students and a large sports field with a track on the senior side.

The school includes tech and science labs, a gym, library and cafeteria. The building is 103,581 square feet in total.

The main entrance will be off Townsend Line and there will be a road that leads to nearby arena.

There is also 180 parking spaces on a number of lots. The board has been receiving bids from contractors for the massive project. The tender call closes in November.

It’s not clear how long it will be before the board chooses the winning bid.

Officials have said it could take up to two years to build before students are actually in the new school.
