Fighting Irish win OFSAA Silver

The St. Patrick’s Fighting Irish are proud silver medalists as the second best senior girls’ AAA high school basketball team in Ontario.
The second seeded Irish lost 49-37 to the top seed and defending champion Maple Ridge Secondary School from Barrie in the OFSAA championship contest before a packed and mostly partisan gym at Lambton College Saturday.
Taya Willemsen led St. Patrick’s with 15 points, seven boards and two blocks. Corunna’s Taryn Stoukas, pictured above in the semi-final Friday, had eight points, including six in the fourth quarter and Ava Nienhuis had six points on a pair of three-point conversions. T
he champions, who drained a dozen three-pointers in the final, finished the tournament with a perfect 5-0 record. The Irish were 4-1.
