Northville neighbours ran to help homicide victim, one hospitalized after being stabbed

November 30, 2025

Residents of a quiet retirement park near Port Franks are in “great shock” after the murder of a “wonderful neighbour.”

Lambton OPP could be seen at the home Sunday as they continued the investigation at the home of a 57-year-old woman who was killed Saturday afternoon.

Police released little information about the homicide saying only one person was dead, another person was in the hospital with “serious injuries” and another was arrested after a call to Northville Crescent Saturday around 1:40 pm. An OPP communications officer did not respond to our email or calls seeking more information about the murder.

Police officers and forensic experts were still in front of the home in the hilly, treed neighbourhood Sunday at 5 pm as neighbours talked about what had happened.

A resident, who asked not to be identified, said one of the woman’s neighbours was outside doing yard work when he heard a “hellish” scream. The neighbour ran into the home and tried to subdue the man who had a knife. The neighbour who came to the victim’s aid was stabbed a number of times, the resident said, including in the neck. Another neighbour, a woman, also went into the house to help and was struck by what the resident believed was a broomstick.

Police were called and arrived quickly, said the resident and were able to remove the woman from the home. Officers began CPR.

It wasn’t long before the neighbourhood was filled with OPP and paramedics; at one time, the resident said, there were four ambulances and 13 OPP vehicles around the home. Ten to 12 officers were in the area with assault weapons.

It took officers four hours to remove the man from the home and place him under arrest. At 7:30 pm Sunday, police had not said what charges the man faces nor when he would appear in court.

Next door neighbours say the person in custody is the victim’s son. One resident said the victim had confided in him in the past that her son struggled with mental health issues.

The neighbour who tried to intervene remains in a London hospital. The woman who was injured as she tried to help was assessed and returned home Saturday.

“The whole community is shocked,” said the neighbour adding the woman had many friends in the retirement community. “You couldn’t get a much better person.”
